Why Studying Alone Is Killing Your Grades (And What Actually Works)

You told yourself you'd study tonight. You even opened the app. Then life happened — your phone buzzed, your roommate put on a show, and somehow it's midnight and you haven't touched a single flashcard.

Nobody noticed. Nothing changed. And tomorrow you'll do it all over again.

That's not a discipline problem. That's an accountability problem. And it's exactly what we built Study Pals to fix.

Your pet has a new best friend

If you've been using Brigo, you already know your pet. It grows every day you study. It's your streak made visible — a little creature that thrives when you show up and suffers when you don't.

With Study Pals, that world just got bigger. You can now invite a friend to study alongside you — and your pet's world reflects it. A shared streak appears between you and your pal, tracking every day you've both shown up. It's separate from your personal streak, because this one isn't about you alone. It's about both of you.

Miss a day and you don't just hurt yourself. You break something you built together.

How Study Pals works

Invite a friend

Go to your pet's area in the app and send a Study Pal invite. Once your friend accepts, you're linked. You can see whether they've studied today — and they can see whether you have.

Build a shared streak

Every day you both study, your shared streak grows. It's a number that only goes up when both of you show up. Two people, one streak — and neither of you wants to be the one who breaks it.

Send a nudge

This is the part that actually changes behaviour. If your Study Pal hasn't studied by the end of the day, you'll know. And with one tap, you can send them a nudge — no message, no judgment, just a single tap that says: hey, our streak is on the line.

It sounds small. But there's something about knowing a real person is watching that makes you close TikTok and open your notes.

Who should use this?

Study Pals works best when both people have something real to lose — an exam coming up, a course they can't afford to fail, a streak they've worked hard to build. It's perfect for:

  • Nursing and pre-med students who need consistent daily review

  • Roommates or classmates taking the same course

  • Anyone who studies well with others but falls off alone

The best Study Pal isn't necessarily your closest friend. It's someone who will actually nudge you — and someone you don't want to let down.
